Another great victory for the 430 GTC, dominating the endurance races
Source: Ferrari

Maranello, 21 March – Spring started for Ferrari in the best possible way. The night in Florida brought another success for the 430 GTC started by the Team Risi Competizione, this time at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the first race in the American Le Mans Series. Meanwhile the victories for the team from Houston are growing: this was the third success in the last four editions of this race, confirming the excellent performance in the classical endurance races, where the team also won the last two editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans as well as the Petit Le Mans. 331 laps for Jaime Melo, Gimmi Bruni and Pierre Kaffer, bringing home the 430 GTC with number 62 on the sixth overall place, 36 laps behind the Peugeot with Ferrarista Marc Gené, the winner of the race together with another two former Formula 1 drivers, Alex Wurz and Anthony Davidson. “This is another very special moment for us,” Team Principal Giuseppe Risi said. “There are similar moments when you fight and win, but on this track it's something special, even more so when it's for the third time in four years with the 430. I hope that this win shows the clients of the 430, what a great car they bought.”

Great satisfaction also for the three drivers. “I'm so happy. We couldn't ask for more for the start of the season,” Jaime Melo said. “The Michelin tyres worked very well, just like the team and my colleagues did: this is the key to winning races like the 12 Hours of Sebring. I've been always racing the 430 since the start of its development in 2006 and we want it to become part of the history of Granturismo competitions.”

“After last year's second place it's really fantastic to be back winning,” Gimmi Bruni added. “I had lots of fun: we fought right from the start. We passed the leader and pulled away. We weren't in the lead only twice, but we overtook more than anybody else.”

The third driver, the German Kaffer, was happy about another win: “I'm glad that I contributed to the best possible start of the season. I want to thank everybody, especially the mechanics, who have done some great work, adjusting the mistake I made early last week. It's great driving such a car and it's even better with Jaime and Gimmi.”

Three more Ferraris participated in the first ALMS race: two from the team Extreme Speed Motorsport and the second car from the Team Risi Competizione. The best was number 2, with the sixth overall place in its class with Cosmo-Barbosa-Brown ahead of Krohn-Jonsson-Van de Poele. Less lucky was the car with Sharp-van Overbeek-Farnbacher, which had to retire due to mechanical problems after 271 laps.

The second race in the American Le Mans Series will be held on the Long Beach city circuit, in California, on 17 April.

Lasting success for F430

Maranello (Modena), 21 March – Thanks to the victory yesterday at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the spectacular endurance race, the first round of the prestigious American Le Mans Series, the F430 GT2 from the Risi Competizione team has now three wins in a row since 2008. At the end of the race in Florida, which lasted from 10:30am to 10:30pm, the car started by the Ferrari Houston team and excellently driven by Jaime Melo, Gianmaria Bruni and Pierre Kaffer, crossed the line in sixth overall place after 331 laps or 1,970 kilometres, ahead of the two BMW with Bill Auberlen – Tommy Milner – Dirk Werner and Dirk Müller – Joey Hand – Andy Priaulx. Great enthusiasm for team principal Giuseppe Risi, who, at the end of the race, underlined together with his equipe the importance of such a good start into the season and how the F430 is still such an extraordinarily competitive car.

The series’ next race will be held on the city circuit of Long Beach in California on 17 April.

American Le Mans Series – A convoluted race
Source: Ferrari

Maranello, 18 April – It was an unlucky day for the Risi Competizione team in California, after the elation of victory in the Sebring 12 Hours a month ago. The Houston Ferrari car, driven by the Brazilian, Jaime Melo took pole on Friday in qualifying, but was caught up in the traffic jam caused by the prototype cars on the opening lap and further delayed by a problematic pit stop which cost it a few places. At the end of the race, affected by endless appearances from the Safety Car, any hope of making it to the podium vanished as a result of a damaged rear tyre, after a collision with a prototype car around eight laps from the flag. The race was won by the Patrick Long-Jorg Bergmeister Porsche 911, followed by the Chevrolet Corvette of Jan Magnussen-Johnny O’Connell and the BMW M3 of Tommy Milner-Bill Auberlen. The F430 GT, which crossed the line in the hands of Gimmi Bruni thus had to settle for fourth place, while the two other Ferraris, entered by Tequila Patron Spirits and crewed by Scott Sharp-Johannes van Overbeek and Ed Brown-Guy Cosmo finished seventh and eighth.

The next round of this prestigious series takes place on Saturday 22 May at the Laguna Seca circuit in California.

ALMS, Laguna Seca: important points for Risi Competizion
Source: Ferrari

Maranello, 23 May 2010 –After a great showing from the Brazilian Jaime Melo in Friday’s qualifying was rewarded with pole position, the car he shared with Gianmaria Bruni finished the GT category of the race in fourth place, at the spectacular Laguna Seca circuit, which hosted the third round of the American Le Mans Series. Fifth place went to the Extreme Speed Motorsports F430 GT2, driven by Scott Sharp and Joannes van Overbeek, which had set the second fastest time in class GT during qualifying.

The Bruni-Melo car was caught up in traffic caused by one of the prototype cars on lap fifteen and also lost a few places after tangling with another car, in a race affected by strong winds and which was hard fought all the way to the chequered flag. The final reward was fifteen important points in the championship battle. The three podium positions went to the winning Porsche 911 of Patrick Long-Jorg Bergmeister, followed by the BMW M3 of Dirk Muller-Joey Hand and the Chevrolet Corvette of Olivier Beretta-Oliver Gavin. Risi Competition leaves Laguna Seca in third place in the championship, heading into the next round of the prestigious series, scheduled for 11 July at Miller Motorsports Park, in Utah.

ALMS – Ferrari wins in Salt Lake City
Source: Ferrari

Maranello, 12 July 2010 – Thanks to the efforts of the crew of Gimmi Bruni – Jaime Melo, the Risi Competizione Ferrari took victory in the fourth round of the American Le Mans Series, held yesterday at the Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City. The Ferrari men had the upper hand over the BMW M3 of Bill Auberlen – Tommy Millner and the Corvette C6 of Jan Magnussen – Johnny O’Connel, maintaining the number one slot they secured in qualifying. The formidable pairing currently heads the Drivers’ classification with this second win of the season, following on from the one taken at the Sebring 12 Hours back in March. Less fortunate was the other F430 GT2 entered by the Houston based Ferrari squad, driven by Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander who, having started third on the grid after a surprising performance in qualifying, finished sixth, after incurring a stop and go penalty, following a collision during an overtaking manoeuvre. All the same, speaking the day after this new adventure, Fisichella felt it had been a positive experience. “I am pleased, because finishing sixth despite the penalty is a great result. I had some problems with traffic, but when I had a clear track ahead of me, it was fantastic, as I had a good race pace. The team did a great job and I hope I can repeat this experience soon.”
The prestigious American series is back in action over the weekend of 25 July at the Lime Rock Park circuit, in Connecticut.

Maranello, 11 July – The Risi Competizione Ferrari has taken pole position at the Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, which is hosting the fourth round of the American Le Mans Series. In the Grand Touring category, the first of the two F430s entered by the Houston based Ferrari team took the number one slot at the end of yesterday’s qualifying, through the efforts of Gimmi Bruni-Jaime Melo, while its sister car, which for this race is crewed by Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander, was third fastest.

Splitting the two is the other Ferrari, entered by the Extreme Speed Motorsports team, driven by Johannes van Overbeek and Scott Sharp. For the Finn Vilander, this is his third time competing in the prestigious American series, after racing twice in 2006, while for Fisicella it is his maiden outing. “At first it was difficult, but I grew in confidence lap after lap. The atmosphere in the team is very friendly and I soon felt at ease and the car is quick and very consistent. Our aim here is to score points to help Gimmi and Jaime in their fight for the title: here there is more competition than in the Le Mans Series, because there are more car companies involved, each one with two cars entered.”

The Ferrari crews will now tackle a “sprint” race lasting two hours and forty five minutes, which gets underway at 14.35 this afternoon, local time

Maranello, (Modena) 10 July – Almost two months after the previous round, held at California’s Laguna Seca circuit, yesterday competitors in the American Le Mans Series were back in action at the Miller Motorsports Park at Salt Lake City, for the fourth round of the season. On the start line of this popular America series is Giancarlo Fisichella “on loan” from the Le Mans series in which he races for the Italian AF Corse team and yesterday he took part in the test session that got the Utah Grand Prix weekend underway. Alongside him in this new experience is Toni Vilander, his team-mate from the European series and Jean Alesi. Fisichella took one of the two F430 GT2s entered by Risi Competizione to second place on the time sheet in 1.48.315, behind the Ferrari of Houston car crewed by Jaime Melo-Gimmi Bruni (1.47.442) and ahead of the Porsche 911 of Patrick Long-Joerg Bergmeister (1.48.534.) Qualifying takes place this afternoon to decide the starting grid for tomorrow’s race, a “sprint” over 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Maranello, 25 July 2010 – Yesterday’s American Le Mans Series race at Lime Rock Park, Lakeville, Connecticut did not go according to plan for Jaime Melo-Gimmi Bruni. Practice for the fifth round of the series had been affected by rain, making the race somewhat unpredictable, as it took place in the dry apart from a light shower that hit the track in the final stages. The Ferrari number 62 had to retire only 24 minutes into the race, having been bundled off the track in a collision with Johnny O’Connell Corvette. The other F430 GT2 entered by the Houston based Ferrari team, in the hands of Mika Salo and Pierre Kaffer, finished fourth behind the Porsche 911 of Jorg Bergmeister-Patrick Long and the two BMW M3s of Tom Millner-Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand-Dirk Mueller.

Competitors in the high profile American series will be back on track on Saturday 7 August at Lexington’s Mid-Ohio circuit.

Maranello, 24 July 2010 – Ferrari n°62, entered by the Risi Competizione team, set the third fastest time in qualifying in the GT category at the Lime Rock Park circuit, at Lakeville, Connecticut, for the fifth round of the American Le Mans Series.

The session was blighted by rain and the now solid crew of Gimmi Bruni and Jaime Melo ended up behind two Porsche 911s of Joerg Bergmeister-Patrick Long and Bryan Sellers-Wolf Henzler and ahead of the second of the Houston-based Ferraris, in the hands of Mika Salo and Pierre Kaffer.

Rain played a key role throughout the whole weekend so far, even though the forecast for the race is that it should be dry, so that it could be something of a lottery for everyone…

Maranello, 8 August – Gimmi Bruni and Jaime Melo took victory in yesterday’s American Le Mans Series race, the Mid-Ohio Sport Car Challenge at the eponymous circuit in Lexington. This is the Risi Competizione’s third win out of the six rounds held so far this season and promotes the team to second in the classification for the category. The two Ferraris entered by the Houston-based squad were the quickest of all the GT cars on track, while thanks to a great overtaking move from Melo, the #62 F430 retook the race lead and kept it to the chequered flag, in a race full of passing moves and traffic towards the end during a Safety Car period. The other car, #61, driven by Toni Vilander and Giancarlo Fisichella was forced to retire after a collision with Ed Brown’s Ferrari. It happened in a fight for fifth place, after the race had been compromised when too many places were lost during a pit stop: the F430, with Fisichella on board, was put into a spin by one of the two cars entered by Extreme Speed Motorsports. “I am very disappointed, “ commented the Italian when he returned to the pits. “It was a shame to be knocked out just when I was fighting to make up places lost during the pit stop because of a problem with a tyre. But now I am just thinking about doing well next time I get the opportunity to race in this series again, because it really is an amazing experience.” Fifth was the other Ferrari of Scott Sharp and Johannes van Overbeek, with second and third places on the podium going to the Corvette ZR1 of Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta and the BMW M3 of Bill Auberlen and Tommy Milner.

In just two weeks time, over the weekend of 22 August, the round of the series takes place at the Road America circuit at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Maranello, 7 August 2010 – The Ferrari of Toni Vilander and Giancarlo Fisichella is on pole position for the sixth round of the American Le Mans Series, after yesterday’s qualifying at Lexington’s Mid-Ohio circuit in Ohio.

The F430 driven by the Finn and, on loan from the European Le Mans Series, Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro Formula 1’s third driver, came out on top from the thirty four cars entered, dominating the GT2 category with a best time of 1.19.682. Next up was the other Risi Competizione Ferrari driven by Gimmi Bruni and Jaime Melo (1.19.759.) The second row was an all Corvette ZR1 affair, with third place going to Olivier Beretta-Oliver Gavin (1.20.019) and Jan Magnussen-Johnny C’Connel (1.20.189.)

There are great expectations for the race which gets under way at 15.00 local time (21.00 CET) as Fisichella tackles his second race in the prestigious American series, after making his debut a month ago at the Salt Lake City circuit.

Maranello, 5 August 2010 – One month on from the race at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah, this coming weekend sees Giancarlo Fisichella get back behind the wheel of one of the two Ferraris entered by the Risi Competizione team, for the sixth round of the American Le Mans Series, at the Mid Ohio circuit. Thirty four cars are entered, split into four categories, LMP, GT, LMPC and GTC, for a sprint race lasting two hours and forty five minutes, which gets underway at 3pm local time. Alongside the Roman driver in the F430 GT2 once again we find Finland’s Toni Vilander, while the second car entered by the Houston Ferrari team will be crewed by Gimmi Bruni and Jaime Melo, who are currently third in the category classification, eighteen points off the leader.

Maranello, 23 August – Yesterday’s race at the Road America circuit at Elkhart Lake, in Wisconsin ended with a result that did not live up to expectations for Risi Competizione. The Houston based team, came to the seventh round of the season off the back of a win at the start of August, in the sprint race at Lexington’s Mid-Ohio circuit, but finished with a sixth place in the GT class, courtesy of Gianmaria Bruni-Jaime Melo and a seventh with Pierre Kaffer-Mika Salo.

Tyre performance played a major factor in the outcome of the two hour forty five minute race: in the opening stages the Melo-Bruni F430 GT2 made an early pit stop to refuel and change tyres and at the end of the first hour was in the lead of the GT class. Then, with only 12 laps remaining, the Ferrari number 62 found itself in difficulties because of a progressively increasing lack of grip, having to settle for sixth at the flag. The other Ferrari entered by the Houston team and driven by Pierre Kaffer and Finland’s Mika Salo, came home behind it. “We went from being the quickest car on track to having to follow others. All the same, we fought right to the end, even if the result is definitely not what we were looking for,” commented Gianmaria Bruni afterwards “But now we can look forward to Mosport next weekend,” added the Italian, clearly focussing on doing better in the forthcoming round at Bowmanville in Ontario. “We can once again be in the fight there.”

Maranello, 30 August 2010 – Despite the fact that the weekend did not get off to an auspicious start, the Risi Competizione Ferrari’s escapade in the Mosport Grand Prix in Ontario ended with a second place finish in the eighth and penultimate round of the American Le Mans Series.

The race which was incident packed, neutralised twenty six minutes from the end because of a bad crash and ended under yellow flags, featured a fantastic climb up the order from the crew of Gimmi Bruni and Toni Vilander from the back of the grid to take second place in the Risi Ferrari. The car had set the pole position time in Saturday qualifying, but with drivers indisposed, Jaime Melo being ill and Pierre Kaffer suffering an accident in free practice, the time was disallowed. At the flag, the F430 GT entered by the Houston based Ferrari squad managed to get up behind the winning Porsche 911 of Patrick Long and Jorg Bergmeister and finish ahead of the BMW M3 of Bill Auberlen and Tommy Milner.

The result sees Bruni consolidate his second place in the Drivers’ classification, while Ferrari and Risi Competizione are third in the Constructors’ and Teams’s tables going into the final Petit Le Mans race, at Road Atlanta, Braselton in Georgia over the weekend of 3 October.

Maranello, 29 August  – The Mosport track in Bowmanville, Ontario is hosting the eighth and penultimate round of the American Le Mans Series this weekend and the Ferrari entered by the Risi Competizione team took pole in the GT2 category. Thanks to a fantastic lap in 1.17.160 from Gimmi Bruni, the F430 entered by the Houston-based Ferrari squad was quickest ahead of the Porsche 911 of Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long (1.17.461) and the BMW M3 of Bill Auberlen and Tommy Milner (1.17.491.) However, the Ferrari will start from the back of the grid because Jaime Melo was forced to retire as he is not feeling at all well. Bruni who is substituting for the unlucky Pierre Kaffer who had an accident in free practice yesterday morning, will now be partnered by Toni Vilander, standing in for the lead Argentine driver, laid low yesterday with a viral infection.

The race takes place this afternoon as a two hour forty five minute sprint, starting at 15.05 local time.

Petit Le Mans – Ferrari second and third in class
Source: Ferrari

Maranello, 3 October 2010 – The twelfth year of the prestigious American Le Mans Series came to an end at the Road Atlanta circuit in the United States, with a race lasting just over nine hours. The GT2 class win went down to the very last corner, with the Corvette ZR1 of Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen and Emmanuel Collard emerging victorious, ahead of the Ferrari entered by Extreme Speed Motorsports, driven by Scott Sharp, Johannes van Overbeek and Dominik Farnabacher. In third place was one of the two Risi Competizione F430s, crewed by Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander. The duo staged a fantastic climb back up the order after being penalised for a collision in the early stages, then losing the lead in the classification when they ran out of fuel with only ten laps remaining. This meant their hopes of taking the championship evaporated, with the title going to Patrick Long who finished down in fifth at the wheel of the Flying Lizard Porsche 911.

The other F430 entered by the Houston Ferrari dealership completed 353 laps, or around 1431 kilometres on its way to seventh in class, in the hands of Jaime Melo, Giancarlo Fisichella and Mika Salo.

After the previous round at Silverstone and this Petit Le Mans race, the Ferrari men move on to tackle the third round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, a 1000 kilometre race at China’s Zhuhai circuit over the weekend of 7 November.
